The rescuers opinions : A common European protocol and recognized medical practice.
2004-10-14

Dear Chris Jones,
I totally agree with your point of vue about an equal care that every patient should recieve in all Europe.
The european Parliement should organize a big conference with all the pre-hopspital care supervisors of every european country to discuss about how we could get better in our work.
The problem is how to organize such a thing...
Best regards... L.G.

Thank you LG for your comments. It is true that we in England have more autonomy than the Swiss but the drugs we can give are "safe drugs" when a doctor is needed, when time allows, he will be there. The control for all ambulance protocols must be standardised. I have a great respect for those services both private and state that operate in northern Europe, but the people from all of Europe deserve an equal right to good pre-hospital care. Why does the European parliment not set-up a department to standardise pre-hospital care? they are to busy trying to make us all use the same type of ambulance (CEN), What we use does'nt save lives, how we practice does.

My regards to you all.

C.J.

Dear man,

I have been in England and followed the Paramedics of the Surrey Ambulance Service NHS Trust for one month. It is true that it would be easier if all the European pre-hospital care could follow the same protocols and guidelines to offer to the patient a better care.
I believe that the English pre-hospital care is quite simmilar with the Swiss pre-hospital care except some differences... In England you have more autonomy( intubation, recongniscense of death etc...) because you do not work often with doctors on the scene, but in Switzerland for serious cases the doctor will also come on the scene to give some drugs or treatement that we arn't allowed to give to the patient as Paramedics.
And it is also true that every European contry as his own way to work, depending from the culture and the health services.
But it would be a good thing to try to make a common European pre-hospital care...
